Short shorts and me.

July 21, 2012

Flash Frontier has just released their July curation of fine flash fiction.  This month’s theme: The Road. I’m stoked to say that I’m a part of it and humbled that they had the crazy idea to ask me for my thoughts on the genre.  Those crazies.  The best part about the little vignettes pulled together on the site is the quick transport.  Check it out and deal with bite-size bouts of heartbreak, old cars, accidents, backseat shenanigans and early settlers.  You’ll still have time for a long walk in the sun. Thanks to the editors of Flash Frontier for...

Flash! fiction.

June 18, 2012

Sometimes, believe it or not, I write short stuff.  I don’t know if I’m very good at it but I like the exercise of rounding out a story in 300 words or so.  While I’m doing it, I enjoy the constraints.  I sort of think of it like writing inside a snow globe.  The sky is low and artificially blue but the world under it will be precise and as ornate as I like.  When the world is too big for me, I happily settle into a substitute microcosm. It’s for the...

Just thought I’d share a recent day in the life.  I can only hope that future stat reports exceed this absolute awesomeness. I’ve glimpsed nirvana and it’s full of misspellings.

Shameless self-deprecation

February 24, 2012

Hello there.  Fine day, right?  Little bit of sun in the clouds.  Wind not throwing a tantrum.  Ocean looking like mercury under a silver sky.  Decent.  I’m gonna pretend it’s my birthday.  Please don’t hesitate to send presents. Here are two things that came up today, not necessarily in honor of my unbirthday but totally in the spirit of it. I have a 250-word piece of meh on a flash fiction site.  As I read through the very short pieces for the first time, I realize that my nature– character, preference, interest, whatever– doesn’t suit this kind of attention...

Kapow.

I'm scared of faces in the window.

And we will be friends forever and ever and ever.

Well, that was a nice thing to say.

"...let's just say you are my favorite writer right now." - John Graham, Senior Editor, Illustrator at The El Fornio Historical Society, elfornio.com.

"Consider me a fan." - Bones Lashbrook, Muse and Renaissance Woman.

"So. What are you doing with this?" - My mom.

I can’t believe I do this.
